Like or dislike this use of Twitter?

Not sure if I like this or not?

http://bit.ly/aguu3S

Have a look at let me know what you think. It’s cheeky and cheap (the bit I like I think), missing the point of social media entirely, and totally not what this agency should be using Twitter for. I’m sure they have heard of Seek, so why just mirror your jobs and not engage with your target candidate market instead?

Social Media Inception

Over the weekend I finally went and saw Inception. Unless you have been living under a rock you know this movie has something to do with dreams, and stealing them. On the surface that is initially what it is about, however as the movie progresses the key plot is planting an idea in someone’s dream/subconscious so that when they wake they will think the idea is their own.

Sounds simple right, wrong. And without giving away any more of the movie for those who haven’t seen it yet, (Go see it now) I want to focus on that point, “planting an idea in someone’s dream/subconscious so that when they wake they will think the idea is their own”.

Something dawned on me when I heard this and thought back to my recent Social Sofa episode with Steve Ludlow. Steve mentioned that the benefit that his business receives out of Social Media is that he gets to communicate with his network and does not feel the necessity to sell to them at every opportunity. With a more engaging and sharing approach, Steve has been able to fill 25% of his positions via Social Media in the last 12 months, without the need to sell or broadcast/spam his jobs.

Engaging with your network, providing interesting and varied content, encouraging feedback, conversation and no selling. When someone within your network is seeking a new career opportunity, they reach out to you, without the thought of another company. Without realising it they have you in their subconscious as the “Go To” company and it was all their idea. Did I hear you say Social Media Inception?

If this is not your strategy perhaps it should be, or at least be forming a large part of your social media communication, engagement and content creation strategy.

Social Media Inception, not a bad thought/approach if you ask me, what are your thoughts?

You Are The New Dork

There isn’t really much I can say about this video other then I was in stitches the whole way through it. Watch and enjoy.

Social Recruiting Video Tip Carnival

Social Recruiting is still developing , and some countries, let alone companies are further ahead then others. Australia for me it seems is still waiting and watching. So I had an idea……Lets help them and everyone else out there with some tips.

All I ask is 30 seconds of your time (ok maybe 5 minutes) to record, via video, your No.1 social recruiting tip. It could be a tool you can’t live without, or something to consider when looking at a social recruiting plan.

Here’s how you can send it to me.

1. Think about your No.1 tip for a company about to embark on Social Recruiting
2. Record your tip in 30 seconds or less
3. Send your 30 second video to me via www.yousendit.com Email is justinhillier at talentonview.com (Thanks to TOV for my email account)
4. Provide me with your name, company website, Twitter account and a short, 120 character Bio in the comments below.

That’s it. I will collate all of the video’s, upload to the SR360 Youtube channel and create a blog that will have a link to every video with the information you provide me. My aim is to build a large library of video tips that we can all share and use to help everyone on their social recruiting journey.

Any questions please shout out. I’m looking forward to hearing, and seeing some great tips from all over the world. I of course will provide mine as well. I hope this will turn out to be a great resource for everyone.

I will give everyone till the 23rd August to complete. It should only take you 5 minutes, enjoy……The more the merrier so spread the word and get as many people involved as you can.

Is Social Media a Fad? I think NOT!!!

I have been showing a few clients this fantastic video of late, and to put it simply, it has been blowing their minds away. It is the second video in the social media revolution series. There really is no doubting that social media IS NOT A FAD. With the statistics that are within this video are thought about, I really do wonder why social media and recruitment is taking its time, but alas, watch this video and make up your own mind.

Mobile and Recruitment – The Future Report

The Future of Mobile Recruitment report is the result of a roundtable co-hosted by Jobsite and Allthetopbananas.com in London in May 2010 with some of the leading brands involved in mobile, including Google and Microsoft.

You can download the report below, here though are some key findings:

  • More people now access social networking sites via mobile than desktop
  • In countries like India & Africa, mobile internet access has already far outstripped fixed line access
  • In the UK, mobile internet will soon account for half, or more, of all internet access
  • Mobile internet is now mainstream and featuring on the news pages of National newspapers
  • Part of the delay with a business response is the lack of revenue for developers in the mobile space – this could change shortly
  • Cloud computing is fundamental to the development of mobile and will help make it more powerful than desktop
  • There was a 390% increase in traffic to Jobsite.co.uk via mobile between January 2009 & April 2010

Deloitte – I think someone really wants to work for you!!

For those of you who don’t know Ellison Bloomfield has been looking for a job in HR for about 2 months now with only a small amount of luck. Ellison’s dream job is to work with Deloitte, a company that from the outside, and all of her research on the inside is exactly the type of environment where she believes she can thrive.

Now I spoke with Ellison about 6 weeks ago and offered some advice on the job hunting front and how to position herself differently in the market place as a candidate. There was an interview coming up with Deloitte, which unfortunately she was not successful with. This however has not stopped her goal of working for a company she clearly holds in high regard.

I have never met Ellison, we have only spoken once on the phone, however we have had plenty of conversations via Twitter. The one thing that I can tell you for sure is that Ellison REALLY WANTS TO WORK FOR DELOITTE AUSTRALIA. So much so she has now done this:

Google Deloitte Australia to see this in action.

    deloitte australia - Google Search

We have seen this before with other candidates utilising google adwords to gain the attention of Execs, but Ellison has also using social media channels to get the attention of Deloitte with Twitter, her blog site, had an interview with Deloitte (where the job wasn’t quite the right fit I believe?) and now google adwords.

There is nothing in this at all for me, and as I have said Ellison is a Twitter friend and has not asked me to write this post and we have not met at all. But for a candidate to go to all of these lengths it deserves highlighting everywhere.

So I have question for you Deloitte. How many other candidates are going to this length to work for you? And will you create a position in HR for Ellison, if nothing else she would certainly be great at helping and support your Employer Brand. Back to you Deloitte…………

The Ultimate Job is now launched

This morning I had the pleasure of attending The Ultimate Job media launch which I blogged about recently here.

It was a great launch with nearly all of the Celebrity judges in attendance, and best of all The Hon. Premier John Brumby was also on hand. The Premier was great in realising the opportunity that a competition like this represents not only for companies with some bragging rights, but also for the general public in seeking out opportunities that Victoria are leading the way with against all states.

We heard from each of the Celebrity Judges as to their first job, and what their Ultimate Job would be. Not suprisingly they all thought their current job was The Ultimate Job, but we did get some great stories of their first job experiences. Watch the video below.

This is a fantastic campaign that Drake are conducting, and the support of Mission Australia, a wide range of partners as well as the celebrity judges makes this a very unique competition.

SR360 are very proud to be working with Drake on their social media strategy for this competition.
